Doom's Days (Beautiful to die for)

Darling, look out the window
and welcome the world with me:
For today, its last hour will strike, this is the day when it's smashed to pieces.
It's hard to believe, for everything seems so peaceful and so alive,
wouldn't there hang that giant stray planet behind the house above the land.
In the golden yard of the morning sun, it shines in magical splendour:
Its nearness is so majestic, its quiet rotation promises elegance.
Darling, I know you can't always understand my notion of aesthetics,
but I find doom's days, doom's days just so beautiful to die for.

Dearest, now leave the mobile phone, the network is long out of service!
Even if it was still operating, no one would be left to write anything on What'sApp.
Because since astronomers calculated the trajectory, along with the collision date,
billions prefered to escape into the bunkers deep in the ground.
Only few were willing to hold out like us to witness the spectacle,
and instead of a nice community event, we now experience this alone.
The end of the world, very one-sidedly, is mostly seen as a mere threat -
Me, I find doom's days, doom's days just so beautiful to die for!

Dearest, come, let's walk the path through the woods to the lakeside one more time.
Even birdsong and insect buzzing finally have also ebbed away here.
Do you wonder where they went, what they are doing now, if they feel the end, too?
As for me, down on the beach, I'd like to seduce you one last time on earth,
when everything around us swings and vibrates in a fatal whistling sound,
feeling the pull of the enchantingly powerful gravitation above.
I've been a guest on so many worlds already, to some species it seemed obscene:
I have always found doom's days, doom's days so beautiful to die for.

Oh, dearest, you didn't seriously think I'd leave you here alone today!
My space glider in our barn is ready for takeoff, the car's bodywork just a pretence.
And there's enough room for the two of us - on board as on several worlds in space.
We'll be at a safe distance at the all-sealing, final bang.
Me also, I'd rather watch it from above, but it's a pity that you can't hear anything:
In a vacuum, it always seems a little fake when a celestial body is destroyed.
Well, and now quickly pack your suitcase; I feel it's time now to go,
Because I find you, dearest, find you, dearest, so beautiful to die for.
Because I think you, dearest, think you, dearest, are too beautiful to die.
